The Excellence model is based on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model of quality management. It is used widely in large business organisations, less so in the voluntary and community sector. It provides a framework for self assessment and continuous improvement covering all aspects of work. It is based on the idea that there are five enablers; leadership, people, policy and strategy, partnerships and resources, and processes, that lead to different categories of results (people results, customer results, society results and key performance results). It allows various methods for the self assessment process but can be time consuming. The model is seen by those who develop it as a tool for continually improving your organisation through understanding where you’re at, where the gaps are and enabling you to develop solutions. It is externally evaluated.
